About HaLANN

MISSION

HISTORY

The Harvard Latina/o Alumni National Network (HaLANN) is composed of more than 2,500 Latina/o Harvard and Radcliffe alumni/ae, faculty, staff and students. HaLANN was formed in 1999 with the aim of organizing alumni around greater University support for and representation of issues concerning the U.S. Latina/o population, with an emphasis on the needs of current students, faculty and staff.

HaLANN's purposes include:

  • Maintaining and expanding a network of Harvard and Radcliffe Latina/o alumni/ae while building a sense of community among alumni, faculty, staff and students;
  • Facilitating communication between the University, HaLANN, and other Harvard alumni groups;
  • Assist Harvard in the recruitment, promotion and retention of Latina/o faculty, administration and students;
  • Assist Harvard in the academic and personal development of Latina/o students;
  • Promote alumni service to Harvard University and local communities; and
  • Participate in the formulation of University policy.

Future HaLANN activities will include:

  • The establishment of The HaLANN Foundation, a fund for Latina/o life at Harvard University;
  • Lobbying Harvard to offer permanent courses focused on the U.S. Latina/o population;
  • Supporting the opening of a Latina/o Resource Center; and
  • Awarding an annual HaLANN Public Service Fellowship

Any Harvard/Radcliffe affiliates who support our mission are welcome to join HaLANN, regardless of ethnic identity. Although HaLANN is intended mainly for alumni/ae, faculty, and staff, full-time students are also eligible for associate (non-voting) membership.

If you are already a member, please consider volunteering for one of HaLANN's current projects or your local chapter - or start one if there aren't any chapters near you. Remember, HaLANN succeeds through the enthusiasm and efforts of volunteers like you!
